Observational Studies

The Synexus model, using its Dedicated Research Centres, is ideally suited to conducting observational studies, where access to large, diverse groups of patients is critical to success, as is the ability to deliver fast data collection and analysis.

There are a number of study designs in this field, Synexus covers:

  • Case-control studies: patients who have a particular condition are compared to those without the condition and investigators assess whether differences in past exposure to one or more drugs might explain why patients suffered from the condition whilst the control group did not.
  • Cross-sectional studies: studies are based on measurements obtained at a single point in time and there is no follow up.
  • Cohort studies: a group of individuals are followed to compare the risk of a particular disease or of disease complications among users and non-users of a given drug.
